Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament condemns coup in Mali

The Speaker of the ECOWAS parliament – Sidi Muhammed Tunis has condemned the military take of power in Mali which had Interim President – Bah Ndaw and Prime Minster – Moctar Ouane both resign their positions after days of arrest and detention.

Muhammed Tunis was speaking Thursday at the opening ceremony of the 2021 first ordinary session of the ECOWAS fifth legislature in Abuja – Nigeria’s capital.

The session which began yesterday May 27th will end on 12 June.

In attendance were  President of the Nigerian SenateAhmed lawan, President of the National Assembly of Benin, Louis Gbehounou Vlavonou, and President of the National Assembly of Togo, Chantal Yawa Djigbodi Tsègan .

Although the commission, the AU, EU, UN and other world leaders have condemned the Junta’s action led by Col. Asismi Goita – The speaker has promised to work with regional authorities in ensuring that Mali returns to a democratic rule.
