Voting has commenced in Sierra Leone’s tightly contested presidential and parliamentary elections amid an economic crisis.

Polling stations opened later than the scheduled time of 7 am in the capital, Freetown, and other areas. They were due to close at 5 pm (17:00 GMT).

Incumbent President, Julius Maada Bio is seeking a second term in the country’s top job after coming to power in 2018
