A wave of public frustration is sweeping across Sierra Leone after mobile operators Orange Sierra Leone and Africell increased their tariffs from 60 Leone to 100 Leone. The new rates, which took effect last week, have triggered widespread criticism from citizens already grappling with rising living costs.

Many Sierra Leoneans have described the move as “insensitive,” arguing that it adds further strain to households struggling under current economic pressures. Consumer groups are also calling for greater oversight to prevent what they see as exploitative pricing.

The tariff hike has revived broader concerns about affordability and access to essential digital services. As public discontent grows, citizens are urging the government to intervene and address the mounting economic burden.
