Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, has made 14 new appointments, most of which are ministerial positions. According to the Public Notice from State House dated 11th January 2022, Alhaji Alpha Kanu, former Strongman of the All People’s Congress {APC} political party is the new Minister of State {a cabinet rank} in charge of Port Loko, Kambia and Karene districts of the country’s Northwestern region.
He replaces Haja Isata Abdulai Kamara – former Secretary General of the Alliance Democratic Party {ADP} whose founder Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray has spent over one year standing trial on rape allegations.
Haja Isata has been made the deputy minister of trade and industry.
Alhaji Alpha Kanu who has been Former President Ernest Bai Koroma’s best friend for the longest time, served in various cabinet ministerial posts for 10 and half years between November 2007 and April 2018.
His new appointment is the second in about a year since the previous as Special Adviser to the National Covid 19 Emergency Response Center {NaCOVERC}
