Health workers in Sierra Leone will today begin the roll out of the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid19 vaccine despite other countries suspending the administration of the vaccine due to safety concerns.
The Sierra Leonean government said in a statement over the weekend that the vaccine is safe and effective and was cleared by the World Health Organization for use.
It urged citizens to come forward to be vaccinated against the pandemic.
Three European countries namely Denmark, Norway and Iceland announced the temporary suspending of the vaccine last week after reports of severe side effects related to the inoculation.
