The National Vote Counting Commission has released the provisional results of last Sunday’s snap legislative elections.
The ruling party, Pastef – Les Patriotes, led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, has emerged victorious, securing a commanding majority of 130 seats in the National Assembly.
The liberal coalition, headed by former President Macky Sall, trailed behind with 16 seats, while former Prime Minister Amadou Bâ’s coalition obtained 7 seats. The coalition led by Dakar Mayor Barthélémy Diaz managed to claim 3 seats.
This decisive victory strengthens Pastef’s hold on the legislature, consolidating its political influence and paving the way for its legislative agenda. It also marks a significant shift in Senegal’s political landscape, with other parties facing a steep decline in representation.
