Senegal on Friday recorded nine hundred and seventeen covid19 infections and sixteen covid related deaths – this is according to the ministry of health and social action.
The ministry in its daily epidemiological bulletin said the new infections were detected from tests carried out on 1,471 samples collected, which corresponds to a positivity rate of 20.51 percent.
Friday’s infections include 123 contacts followed by the health services and 794 others resulting from community transmission identified in Dakar and other parts of the country.
The ministry said, 457 patients tested negative and declared cured by the health authorities, while 64 serious cases are treated in the intensive care units.
Since the first reported case of the virus in Senegal in March 2020, 66,250 infections have been registered with 49,691 recoveries and 1,473 deaths while 15,101 others are still receiving treatment.
In the vaccination front, 977,125 people have at least, received one dose of vaccine since the launch of the national vaccination campaign against covid-19 on February 23 the ministry said.
