Civil Society Platform JAMMI REWMI is demanding the unconditional release of all supporters of Senegal’s main opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, who were arrested on Wednesday during a demonstration.
The protesters targeted public buildings and businesses including banks, in the capital, Dakar, demonstrating against the arrest of the politician.
Ousmane Sonko, a member of parliament, was arrested for disturbing public order and participating in an unauthorized demonstration.
At the time of his arrest, the opposition leader was en-route to the Palace of Justice of Dakar for questioning on a separate allegation bordering on rape.
