A tense confrontation unfolded on Monday in the Senegalese capital, Dakar as numerous protesters engaged in clashes with the police.

The unrest erupted when lawmakers were allegedly denied access to the residence of a well-known opposition politician who was facing legal proceedings related to allegations of rape and libel.

Responding to the situation, law enforcement resorted to tear gas as they confronted demonstrators who had erected roadblocks along a major highway in the capital.

The turmoil extended to certain neighborhoods where cars were set ablaze.
