Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the social stability pact signed with trade unions and employers’ groups. The announcement followed fresh worker protests over civil service layoffs.
The signing ceremony, held Thursday at government headquarters, was overseen by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. It marked a renewed effort to foster labor peace amid rising discontent.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of union members marched in Dakar, denouncing the dismissal of over 400 permanent civil servants in recent weeks.
President Faye acknowledged the grievances and pledged that his administration would honor all commitments under the pact to restore trust and stability.
