Senegal’s main opposition party, PASTEF, says it violated no laws by asking Senegalese living abroad to take part in a fund drive for the party.
The clarification comes after threats from the government to deregister the party for violating domestic elections laws.
It insists it will continue to solicit financial support from diaspora Senegalese.
The party’s fundraising campaign recently raised more than 125 million Francs CFA in a single day.
El Hadj Malick Ndiaye is the National Communication Secretary of PASTEF.
