In Senegal, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko is calling for the reopening of the trial against former Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang.
Sonko, then an opposition figure, was previously convicted of defamation under former President Macky Sall’s administration.
He received a six-month suspended sentence after accusing Niang of embezzling public funds, allegations said to be based on a General Inspectorate of Finance report.
As debate grows over whether legal conditions allow the case to be reopened, Senegalese legal expert Dr Mbaye Cissé offers analysis on the prospects.
