In Mali, political parties have postponed their planned demonstration against the transitional government’s decision to suspend all political and civil association activities.
Initially set for Friday, the protest was called off amid reports that some members of the National Transitional Council may have incited violence around the event. Organizers say the decision was made in the interest of public safety as political tensions continue to escalate.
The parties had intended to challenge what they describe as an unconstitutional dissolution of political freedoms and a dangerous step backward in Mali’s democratic journey.
