The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have condemned the Federal Government and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for raising telecommunication tariffs by 50%.
In a lawsuit, SERAP argued the hike is unconstitutional and undermines citizens’ rights to freedom of expression and information access. Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare labeled the NCC’s approval of the increase as arbitrary and unfair.
NLC President Joe Ajearo highlighted the tariff’s harsh economic impact, calling it a violation of consumer protection laws and international human rights standards. Both groups are urging a reversal of the decision.
