The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued the Federal Government of Nigeria and information minister Lai Mohammed, over what it calls the repressive directive asking broadcasters to stop using twitter.

The latest suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, follows an order by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) asking TV and radio stations to suspend the patronage of Twitter immediately, and telling them to delete Twitter after the social media giant was banned in the country for deleting President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet.

While no date has been fixed for this case, it should be recalled that last week, the ECOWAS Court of justice set June 22 to hear a similar motion, also filed by SERAP and 420 Nigerians.

Abdulahi Hassan reports.
