Resident doctors in Nigeria have announced plans to resume a nationwide strike from January 12, 2026, citing the government’s failure to implement previously agreed measures.
The doctors, under the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), say the agreements were reached after their last industrial action in November but remain unfulfilled.
NARD insists the decision is not politically motivated, pointing instead to worsening welfare conditions and delayed government commitments.
The association confirmed the planned strike during a press conference in Abuja, warning of further disruptions to healthcare services if concerns are not addressed.
