Nigeria moves closer to first census in nearly 20 years

Nigeria is preparing to hold its first population and housing census in almost two decades, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurating a high-level committee on Wednesday to oversee the exercise.

The last national count was conducted in 2006.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of the upcoming census, stating that it will generate critical data to support inclusive development across sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure in Africa’s most populous nation.
