Nigeria's minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen has called for stiffer penalties against parents and guardians who deprive their female children access to education. 

She made the call at an event organised to celebrate this year's international Day of the Girl Child in Abuja, Nigeria's capital.
