In Nigeria, the Benue State Government has ordered mandatory testing for all medical doctors and health workers involved in the management of Lassa fever cases to help prevent health sector mortality.
The announcement followed the death of a medical doctor and the confirmation of four new cases of the disease by the state government on Monday.
Leading the charge of cleaner communities to reduce the risks posed by the disease, Commissioner for health and human services, Doctor Joseph Ngbae says new measures will be put in place to reduce Lassa fever cases.
He also assures that patients undergoing treatment will be adequately catered for.
