A university lecturer and a Public Affairs Analyst in Zamfara State, North Western Nigeria, Dr. Aminu Idris, has said Nigeria is home to about 350 million out of 500 million illegal weapons in circulation in West Africa. 

At a public lecture in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, the university don said most homes in border towns and villages in Northern Nigeria stock and sell arms and ammunitions freely; a situation he said if not quickly arrested will make the present insecurity look like a child's play in years to come.
