Nigeria’s Energy Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, has called for intensified efforts to secure the nation’s power infrastructure amid escalating vandalism that threatens the national grid.
Speaking before the National Assembly in Abuja during the ministry’s budget presentation, Mr. Adelabu emphasized the importance of heightened awareness to curb vandalism, which has caused significant damage to the power transmission network.
He revealed that the issue extends beyond theft, with criminal groups, including bandits, employing advanced methods such as dynamites to sabotage critical towers and transmission lines. Highlighting the interconnected nature of the grid, he warned that damage to even a single component has widespread consequences.
The minister urged security forces and stakeholders to collaborate in safeguarding the country’s electricity systems to ensure stable and efficient power supply.
