In Nigeria, the news of the death of Abubakar Shekau – leader of the Boko haram terrorist network in northwestern part of the country, remains a major headline across all media platforms.

But doubts remain over the death as security experts await a confirmation from relevant security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army Thursday said, it is aware of reports and had launched investigation into the reported death citing an online news portal – Humangle, that said Shekau was killed during a failed negotiation by members of rival group – ISWAP.

Humangle reported that the notorious leader’s bodyguards were subdued, before he was asked to step down and order his group to declare their loyalty to ISWAP.

Apparently opposed to the idea, the Boko Haram leader
w as said to have blown himself up, killing others around him in the process – Humangle said.

This remains to be verified as the death of Shekau, who took over the leadership of the terrorist group after the death of its founder, Mohammed Yusuf, has been reported more than twice.

Babangida Mustapha – a security expert is however concerned about the challenges in the anti-terrorism campaign, should ISWAP – seize its original formation.
