The Nigerien army is expected to set up an air base in Diffa in the southeast of Niger.

This region has been for several years the target of deadly attacks by the Boko Haram group from neighboring Nigeria.

The decision to set up the air base in this location was taken in the Council of Ministers meeting last week.
