In Niger, the government is taking steps to better manage the upcoming rainy season.
Major work is currently underway to rehabilitate the banks of the Niger River.
Last season, these water barriers/shields broke down causing deadly floods, in which lives were lost and properties and farmlands destroyed.
The Nigerien president Mahommed Bazoum was on site Thursday, to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation works.
