Cape Verde witnessing lower cases of SGBV

Marisa Carvalho

While many countries in West Africa and elsewhere report a rise in sexual and gender-based violence, the Island nation of Cape Verde is witnessing a lowering of cases.

The authorities attribute the progress to widespread sensitization and progressive laws that punish perpetrators of such crimes.

Marisa Carvalho, a gender expert in the office of Cape Verde's minister for family, inclusion and social development has been telling WADR more about the situation in her country. The interview took place on the margins of an ongoing experts' meeting on gender in Dakar.
