AfCFTA a game changer for SMEs - Wamkele Mene

The African Continental free trade secretariat says the free trade pact is a game changer for businesses on the continent, particularly the small and medium scale enterprises.

AfCFTA began Trading on January 1, 2020.

Responding to newsmen during the weekend, Secretary General of the secretariat – Wamkele Mene said the reduced tariff regime by his organization, would enable traders, and exporters transit their goods and products efficiently.

According to Mene, the Intra-African trade pact would see 90 percent of all goods traded, enjoy a tariff-free regime for member countries that have signed agreements and deposited their instruments of ratification.

He disclosed that by the end of January, some 54 African Ministers of Trade will converge in Ghana's capital – Accra, to set out a timeline for other trade-related protocols such as Women-In-Trade within the agreement.
