Mali’s Ministry of Mines has unveiled tougher measures to tackle illegal gold mining, which continues to harm the nation’s environment and deplete resources.
Announced during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the new policy builds on 2024 efforts, during which authorities dismantled about ten illegal mining sites and confiscated mining equipment.
The government aims to strengthen enforcement while ensuring sustainable practices in the gold mining sector, a vital component of the country’s economy.
These actions reflect Mali’s commitment to curbing environmental degradation and promoting responsible mining operations nationwide.
