The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have confirmed the killing of Abou Azimane, a prominent jihadist leader, during an operation in the Echell sector, north of Niafunké in the Timbuktu region.
The military operation, conducted on Saturday, also resulted in the destruction of logistics facilities, the seizure of equipment, and the elimination of several other individuals. Seized items included components used to create Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Abou Azimane, notorious for repeated attacks on military positions and abuses against civilians, was a high-profile target. The military described the operation as a significant step in countering threats in the region.
