The Malian renowned cleric Imam Mahmoud Dicko may be under the military’s radar according to sources after airport officials seized his travel document on Thursday.
His passport was confiscated at the Modibo Keita International Airport upon arrival from Mauritania – where he attended a conference of religious and traditional leaders.
While in the neighbouring country, the scholar took part in a consultative meeting for religious and traditional leaders in the Sahel and Sudan.
The two-day event themed, establishing concord among Yourselves was organized by the African Congress for the Consolidation of Peace.
No official statement has been issued by the government for the confiscation of his diplomatic passport.
But public affairs analysts and commentators say the action must have originated from his continuous rejection of the draft new constitution whose fate according to the electoral body, would be known today Friday, June 23, 2023.
