Liberia’s House of Representatives is reconvening today, May 13, to elect a new Speaker following the resignation of Fonati Koffa.
Koffa stepped down on Monday after a prolonged legislative standoff that undermined the House’s functioning and unity.
The election coincides with the opening session of the Legislature’s second quarter, which includes both the House and the Senate.
Lawmakers are hoping today’s vote will restore stability and enable legislative work to resume in full.
