The Supreme Court of Liberia says it has renewed its commitment in the fight against corruption in the judicial system.
The Apex court made this assertion Wednesday in a statement following a report by the United States treasury department on December 9 2020, accusing Judges in the country of corrupt practices.
According to the Treasury report, Counsellor Harry Varney Sherman, Chairman of theSenate Judiciary Committee offered bribes to multiple judges associated with his trial in a 2010 bribery scheme. He then had an undisclosed conflict of interest with the judge who ultimately returned a not guilty verdict in his favor in 2019.
Sherman denies the allegation.
This however is not the first-time lawyers and judges have been accused of corruption in Liberia.
Attorney Darryl Ambrose Nmah communications director at the supreme court spoke to WADR, explaining the reasons it took the court long to respond to the claims by the Us treasury department.
