Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay of Liberia’s Supreme Court has spoken publicly for the first time on the ongoing political deadlock in the House of Representatives, offering a boost to embattled Speaker Fonati Koffa.
Addressing concerns over the absence of Justices at President Joseph Boakai’s second State of the Nation address, Justice Gbeisay clarified that decisions made by the majority bloc, led by Richard Koon, are unconstitutional due to their failure to elect a recognized Speaker. He emphasized that a valid quorum cannot be established without fulfilling this constitutional requirement.
