Lawyers for Thomas Etheridge, the prime suspect in the December 2024 arson attack on Liberia’s parliament, have condemned his arrest and detention as a human rights violation.
The incident left the parliament’s joint chambers completely destroyed, with thick black smoke and flames alarming Monrovia residents.
Etheridge, a staff member in Speaker Fonati Koffa’s office, now faces criminal charges.
Speaking to WADR on Wednesday, Cllr. Jonathan Massaquoi, Etheridge’s lead lawyer, described the arrest as akin to kidnapping, claiming it breached the suspect’s human rights.
This controversial case continues to spark debate as legal and political tensions mount over accountability and due process.
