Former Liberian President George Weah has accused the current administration of infringing on citizens’ constitutional right to protest, raising concerns about the state of democratic freedoms in the country.
Speaking on Sunday, days after returning to Liberia, Weah contrasted his record in office with what he described as growing intolerance for dissent under the present government.
He cited past demonstrations during his tenure, noting that protesters were allowed to assemble near government facilities, sometimes with children present, as proof of his commitment to civil liberties.
Weah warned authorities against repeating past mistakes of suppression and harassment, urging respect for democratic rights and peaceful civic expression.
