In the last week of March 2021, an inferno completely swept dozens of houses in a community in Freetown called Susan’s Bay with mainly corrugated sheets structures known by Sierra Leoneans as "pan body houses" in the east of the country’s capital city.

No death from the incident was reported, but over 400 people were injured and over 7,000 people were affected by the disaster.

Sierra Leone’s National Disaster Management Agency at the time said that almost three-quarters, 73%, of disaster victims slept outside, while 16% stayed with host families and 5% in their homes.

Over a year after that incident, WADR’s Freetown correspondent Patrick Sallia visited the community to find out how life has been for the residents
