The head of Sierra Leone’s largest medical referral hospital Connaught in the capital Freetown, says the hospital remains fully functional despite a doctors’ strike which was announced on Tuesday.

The Medical and Dental Association declared an indefinite strike after negotiations with the government over improved salaries and better working conditions for its members failed.

The aggrieved doctors say they laid down their tools after a 21-day ultimatum to the government to address their concerns ended without any concrete action.
