The French government has re-opened its consulate in the Gambia five years after severing diplomatic ties with the country, during President Yahya Jammeh's regime.

The restoration of diplomatic ties signals the deepening of relations between the Gambia and France.

On Monday, at the opening ceremony, Jean-Yves Le Drian, French minister of Foreign Affairs has promised that his country will support the Gambia in its reconstruction.
