A court in Niger on Tuesday acquitted and released journalist Samira Sabou, who was prosecuted for defamation by the son of the President of Niger.

The court acquitted the journalist saying that the offense was not incorporated.

The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders (FIDH) hailed the verdict and called for the release of all other human rights defenders arbitrarily imprisoned in Niger.
