COVID-19: Senegal lifts state of emergency

    Senegal has further relaxed measures intended to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

    In the latest announcement easing some of the restrictive measures, the President of the country Macky Sall said that the state of emergency he had declared to empower health workers and security forces to tackle the spread of the virus will now be lifted.

    He said that the national airport will be opened for business on July 15 and cautioned citizens to continue to exercise vigilance.

    Senegal has registered over 6,600 cases as of June 28 and over 100 deaths.
