Liberia: Thousands of health workers on strike

  • 23 September 2019

Over 11,000 health workers in Liberia have begun an indefinite strike to protest the government’s failure to pay them their salaries and benefits for the past three months.

According to the National Health Workers’ Union of Liberia, the striking health workers are also demanding increase budgetary allotment for the health sector to provide adequate medical and laboratory supplies.

They also want an increment in salaries.

WADR’s Monrovia correspondent said the protest was already being felt by ordinary people, especially in the capital.
