Gambia: Citizens await outcome of diplomatic passport fraud investigation

  • 10 September 2019

The Government of The Gambia says it is making significant progress with the investigations in connection to the “unlawful acquisition of its diplomatic passports”.

The government came under intense scrutiny after allegations of fraudulent procurement and acquisition of Gambian Diplomatic Passports surfaced on the social media.

This has prompted the authorities to open an investigation. The government claims that progress has been made since the alert 2 weeks ago.

Ranked 75 in the world, a Gambian diplomatic passport lets you travel to 84 countries/territories without a prior visa.

According to a police statement issued a week ago, nine people were arrested in relation to alleged diplomatic passport fraud while one protocol officer is at large.
