The Nigerian army said on Monday that its troops have killed nine key media personalities from the Islamic State of West African Province, Iswap.
The military said that the nine are known for their contribution to the group’s online media propaganda and added that they have destroyed the group’s capacity to spread their ideas online.
The statement, on Twitter, did not say when and where the operation took place.
This is not the first time Nigerian military has made such a claim. On several occasions, Nigerian military claim to have killed or dispersed Islamist militants but the jihadists have come out before to deny the military's claims.
Hamza Suleiman is a journalist with the News Agency of Nigeria and covers the activities of the army in the northeast Bono State.
He spoke to WADR’s Sankulleh Janko on the line from Maiduguri about the latest claim from the army.
