At least 10,000 people die from HIV/AIDS in Ghana every year, according to Ernest Amoabeng Ortsin, President of the Ghana HIV and AIDS Network.
He revealed that 334,000 individuals tested positive for the virus for the first time in 2023, with 12.3% of STI cases linked to HIV.
Despite ongoing awareness campaigns, Ortsin criticized the government’s limited support for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs.
He called for increased funding to curb the spread, particularly in high-prevalence regions like Eastern, Western, and Greater Accra.
