Days after the release of ousted Guinean former President Alpha Conde from house arrest, civil rights groups have warned against any move by the junta to delay an open trial for his role in the killing of hundreds of civilians.
The military government announced Conde’s release on state TV on Friday, seven months after he was ousted in a coup.
The former Guinean leader who has been in detention since last September was allowed by the new junta to receive visitors, and earlier this month permitted to travel to the United Arab Emirates for a medical check-up
This development comes ahead of the April 25 deadline imposed on Guinea by the regional body ECOWAS to present an electoral calendar for a return to constitutional rule.
Dr Faya Milimono, a member of the National Front for the defence of the constitution FNDC, says his group will observe and take appropriate action in the coming days, should justice be delayed.
