The National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Ghana has asked its sitting Members of Parliament, to suspend campaign activities in their constituencies immediately.

The party has also barred its MPs from traveling to get the numbers required to fight against the Electoral Commission’s proposed Constitutional Instrument (CI) for the election in 2024.

This instrument among other things seeks to use the Ghana Card as the source document for registration onto the voters register.

The largest opposition political party and its MPs believe that the attempts by the electoral management body to make the Ghana card the sole identity document in the next general elections will disenfranchise millions of citizens.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey is the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress
