Ghana’s central bank hikes rate to 28% amid inflation concerns

Ghana’s central bank has raised its policy rate by 100 basis points to 28%—its first hike since July 2023—to curb inflation.

Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama cited economic uncertainties, rising food and non-food inflation, and external pressures as key factors behind the decision.

Despite a marginal decline in headline inflation, the Monetary Policy Committee warned that inflation risks remain elevated.
