Ghana’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has dismissed appeals from the Bar Council of England and Wales and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association to reinstate suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Dr. Ayine stressed that the suspension is firmly grounded in the country’s constitutional provisions and will remain effective until the ongoing inquiry committee concludes its work.

The Attorney General’s position highlights the government’s stance on safeguarding due process, despite growing international calls for Torkornoo’s immediate reinstatement.

The inquiry is expected to determine the Chief Justice’s future in office and set a key precedent for judicial accountability in Ghana.
