Ghanaian government initiates reform in the mining sector after blast

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo says his government has initiated a process to reform safety regulations in the mining sector after the tragic explosion that rocked Appiatse.

The small town in Bogoso in the Western part of the country made headlines after the blast that occurred when a truck loaded with mining explosives collided with a tricycle. 

17 persons were killed in the blast with over a hundred persons suffering various forms of injuries. 

Both the police and other emergency services have activated their full emergency response protocols after the incident to save lives even as repair works of some affected infrastructure continue.

According to the President, the tragic incident must lead to major reforms in the mining sector.
