Ghana’s health officials say up to thirty-four (34) contacts have been traced following the confirmation of two cases of the Marburg virus disease in the country.

The disease was suspected following the identification of two persons who met the case definition for an acute hemorrhagic fever in two different locations in the Ashanti region.

According to the Ghana health service, it’s adopting a presumptive positive outbreak approach

Director of public health at the Ghana health service Dr. Franklyn Asiedu-Bekoe tells correspondent Eric Mawuena Egbeta results of samples sent to Senegal are expected in the country within the week.
