the state of Ghana, represented by the Ghana Police Service, has dragged Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu and ten other opposition Members of Parliament to court for embarking on a march to the office of the Electoral Commission.

According to the police service, the act was in contravention of the Public Order Act. They have also charged the legislators with unlawful assembly.

Recall that there was a near-violent standoff between the Minority Caucus (kaa-kus) in Parliament and about 100 heavily armed riot police officers on Tuesday as the marching lawmakers tried forcing their way into the headquarters of the Electoral Commission, to present a petition to the election management body concerning the election results declared for the Techiman South constituency after the recently-held general elections.

WADR’s Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson reports from Accra.
